Allegations made over Bodog and Calvin Ayre
CALVIN AYRE has pledged his continuing support to Ayr United despite facing charges of illegal gambling and money laundering in the United States.
The multi-million pound businessman and Ayr United strip sponsor has been indicted by federal prosecutors on charges of illegal gambling which generated £100 million in winnings.
But in a statement to the Ayr Advertiser today (Wednesday) a spokesman for Bodog UK said: "I can categorically say that it doesn't affect us. Bodog UK is a completely separate entity from everything else. We pulled out of the US on December 15 last year and we stopped using Bodog.com in July last year.
He added: "I don't see why there won't be any more investment in Ayr United. If Calvin chooses to spend some of his money on the club he will. I am not saying he will do that, before anyone starts saying he will buy Somerset Park.
"Ayr have given us a great run for our input this year and should stay up we think. We certainly won't be abandoning ship at any rate."
