Hein supports Nevele casino
ELLENVILLE – Legalized casino gaming in New York will come to fruition, given the fact that there are already racinos and Native American casinos in existence, Ulster County Executive Michael Hein said Thursday.
The new owners of the Nevele Hotel in Ellenville want to incorporate a casino as part of their redevelopment project and Hein said that is the only way a new Nevele can exist.
“The Nevele without casino gambling does not make any sense to run; that’s the problem. The numbers don’t work. As a business model, it doesn’t add up,” Hein said. “When it comes to those kinds of things, the people in Ellenville and Wawarsing have been clear; they want a casino in their community. My perspective is this is a local decision and I will support it as well.”
It will take at least two years for casino gaming to be legalized in New York as the state legislature must approve it this year as well as next year and then it would go before a public referendum to make it finalized.
