    SC senior team falls short

    20.05.12

The South Canterbury senior bowls team disappointed at the Zone Six Interclub Sevens, finishing fourth in Alexandra.

Competition honours went to Dunedin, with Southland second.

In the singles, Sean O'Neill had two wins, including a great game against Black Jack Shaun Scott.

With the scores seesawing for most of the game, Scott finally took the last three ends to claim a 25-18 victory.

In the pairs, Steve Jones and Danny Rooney were out-bowled as they battled the conditions, recording only one win.

In the fours, Richie Kerr, Barrie Andrews, Gary Ford and Wayne Youngman recorded two wins, but were a bit unlucky losing two games on the last bowl and one on the last end. Youngman and Ford played well, with Andrews and Kerr attacking the head.

The development team were unlucky not to pull off a sensational victory. Steve Hall led the way in the singles, winning four of his five games, with his only loss first-up to Southland.

In the pairs, captain Tony O'Driscoll and Timaru Boys' High School pupil Keanu Darby were unbeaten on Saturday, winning three games, but lost two contests on Sunday.
