    Walnut High Bingo Organizers Aim to Help De-Funded Programs

    More than 200 Walnut High School parents and other members of the community packed the ballroom of the Royal Vista Country Club Friday night for the second-annual Bingo Extravaganza.

    The event was to help raise money for school programs that have faced recent budget cuts Attendees played rounds of bingo for a variety of prizes donated from sponsors, everything from gift baskets to tupperware to microwaves.

    With the economy still reeling, Walnut High has faced state education cuts to its technology, co-cirricular, athletic and performing arts programs. Jeanie Koury, a parent and lead organizer of the bingo event said it was important for the community to step up to help the school keep some of its important extracurricular activities.

    "We're doing this to help the school. In this economy there's been cutbacks to our schools, and this was an opportunity for the parents to come together and help give back," Koury said.

    Though most of these players were there to claim the top gifts for themselves, the aim of the fundraising event was not lost on most.
